Luke Witkowski crushes Nordstrom with a monster hit, then destroys Acciari with his fists.

The Detroit Red Wings have something of a one man army on their roster.

On Sunday night the Red Wings were facing off against the Boston Bruins in what should have been a meaningless game for the Wings, but in spite of the playoffs being well out of reach the Red Wings really brought it to the playoff bound Bruins. Not only did the Red Wings bring it on the scoreboard, they currently lead the game by a margin of 5 - 3 at the time of this writing, but they also brought some punishing physical play to the game as well, giving the Bruins a taste of playoff hockey a little earlier than expected.

It started when Detroit Red Wings defenseman Madison Bowie delivered a big time open ice to to notorious Boston Bruins agitator Brad Marchand early on in the game. It was not until later however that things would get really crazy and it was the usual suspect on the Red Wings roster that was looking to lead the charge with his physical play. The Bruins had tied things up at 2 - 2 in the game's second period and with a little over 5 minutes left to go in the frame Detroit Red Wings forward Luke Witkowski tried to light a spark under his team.

Witkowski started things off by absolutely crushing Boston Bruins winger Joakim Nordstrom with a thunderous body check along the boards, one that sent Nordstrom into the boards at a rather dangerous looking angle. As you would expect in such a situation the Boston Bruins were none too happy about the hit and it was Bruins center Noel Acciari who would answer the call for his teammate. Unfortunately for Acciari things would go  even worse for him.

Although you have to commend Acciari for wanting to step up for his teammate in this situation there seems to be little question now that it was a very bad idea for him to attempt to take on a seasoned enforcer like Witkowski. The battle between these two was one sided to say the least and as a result Acciari found himself on the receiving end of a beat down at the hands of Witkowski.
