Longtime New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is making headlines on both sides of the Atlantic today with some of the quotes he made during a conversation with Swedish language newspaper, Expressen.

Lundqvist, who is currently practicing with Team Sweden for the upcoming IIHF World Championships, spoke at length with Expressen’s Magnus Nystrom and admitted that his time with the Blueshirts might finally be coming to an end.

Check out this quote:

"I don't know if I will stay in Rangers throughout my career. I have two years left on the contract and it has always been my goal to remain in Rangers. But when you get up in the years you never know. I have my own agenda, but if the club wants something else, I have to be sensitive to it. You can't just run your own race. It's not always the dream is realistic, we'll see how it gets."

Wow… could you imagine the New York Rangers without King Henrik in goal? He’s been the team’s contested starting goaltender for nearly 15 seasons. In fact, the last goalie to play more than 40 games in a season for the Rangers before Lundqvist was Mike Dunham in 2003-04. It’s almost impossible to imagine this team without Lundqvist in goal for many hockey fans.

Still, at 37 years old and with two impressive youngsters behind him in Alexandar Georgiev and Igor Shesterkin pushing for time in the Rangers net, something’s got to give.
