Florida Panthers star goalie Roberto Luongo took on social media to reveal to the world one thing that has made him vulnerable, so much that he admits having nightmares about it…

On Monday morning the Philadelphia Flyers made a surprise announcement and unveiled a brand new team mascot and well we don’t really know how to describe it to you. We can tell you that they have named it, whatever it is, “Gritty” and we can also tell you that it is very orange but other than that we have been at a loss for words since it came out. The thing doesn’t really look like any type of animal and it certainly does not look like a person and if we’re being perfectly honest here it’s really quite hideous.

You can see it in action in the video above. However, following what Luongo has revealed, you might not want to look at it in the end…

The Panthers starting netminder shared his thoughts on Gritty the mascot on his Twitter account, and the fact that his haunting face kept him up all night. We’re just not sure if it was from laughing at the mascot’s allure, or indeed, if the poor veteran goalie is struggling with the scary mascot’s existence…

Some NHL fans might understand what he’s going through since the arrival of Gritty has surely shock a lot of people around the League.

Unfortunately for Luongo, the Flyers have immediately made Gritty one of the most popular mascots in the world, which will only make Lou’s nightmares even worse… There are already so many memes, photos and animated videos of the crazy looking mascot, it will only get worse.

One social media user even compared it to the clown in the sewer for the novel and movie It from the great Stephen King.

You bet there will be more and more of Gritty’s face and weird GIFs all around social media. They will only feed into Luongo’s subconscious and make him have even more nightmares…

The Flyers surely weren't going for a kid-friendly mascot, right? Or a Luongo-friendly mascot for that matter...

Get ready for a sleepless season, Lou…
