The youth movement in hockey is crazy lately!
San Jose Sharks superstar Macklin Celebrini and projected 1st overall pick Gavin McKenna have both committed to play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Championships in Switzerland.
The 19 year old Celebrini had an absoutely outstanding sophomore season with the Sharks, putting up a remarkable 45 goals and 115 points in 82 games. He nearly dragged the Sharks into the playoffs single-handedly and he ensured that his team will be one to watch next season.
As for McKenna, he's the projected 1st overall pick in this summer's Draft and he's no doubt using this tournament as a way to erase any doubts that scouts may have after his stint with Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championships. McKenna finished 2nd in scoring in that tournament, but his game misconduct penalty for abuse of an official in Canada's 6-4 semi-final loss to Czechia is what stands out the most.
Incidentally, TSN insider Darren Dreger has announced that Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele, New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly have all committed to team Canada, as well.
