Macklin Celebrini shows his mean side after a big hit on his teammate.
San Jose Sharks star forward Macklin Celebrini has shown that he's not afraid to play with a bit of an edge, and that was on full display again on Saturday night when the Sharks faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Sharks were being dominated by the Penguins leading into the third period, but there would come a moment in the third that I believed played a significant role in this game turning on it's head.
In the opening minutes of the first period, Sharks forward Will Smith was on the receiving end of a big hit from Penguins defenseman Parker Wotherspoon along the boards. It wasn't the most notable hit you're ever going to see but it was enough to send Smith to the locker room, and perhaps more importantly it lit a fire under Celebrini.
Immediately following the hit, Celebrini would attack Wotherspoon, first grabbing his helmet in both hands as Wotherspoon was already down on the ice and then throwing several punches at the relatively defenseless Penguins defenseman.
The Penguins would earn a power play out of it and take a 5-1 lead, but the Sharks seemed to be energized by this moment and roared all the way back to eventually win by a score of 6-5 in overtime.
You can see both the hit and Celebrini's reaction in the clip below:
