This one was the final straw for Canucks’ fans. See all of it below:
On Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks shipped out winger Dakota Joshua to the Maple Leafs in return for a fourth-round pick.
And while the fanbase in Toronto was thrilled by the move, fans in Vancouver are quite upset with the loss of the popular player for an underwhelming return.
Comments on social media about the Joshua’s trade have been brutal, especially as it came just days after the Canucks moved promising goalie Arturs Silovs and fetched just a fourth-round pick in 2027 and a middling prospect in a trade on Sunday.
Offside shared many of the reactions from fans in a post that reads: “Judging by the reaction on social media, they’re not happy seeing Dakota Joshua getting merely a fourth-rounder in return either. And that pick won’t be made until 2028.”
Joshua is back in Toronto in some sorts where he was selected in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He however never signed with the Maple Leafs, and had his signing rights traded to the Blues after he wrapped up his collegiate career with Ohio State in 2019. In St. Louis, he played under Craig Berube, who is now the head coach in Toronto.
Through 57 games with the Canucks during the 2024-25 season, Joshua recorded seven goals and 14 points. He has posted 78 points (40 goals, 38 assists) in 241 career regular season NHL games split between Vancouver and St. Louis while collecting eight points (four goals, four assists) in 14 career playoff games.
Fans fell in love with Joshua for his resilience when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this past summer. He underwent surgery to remove a tumor and then became a strong voice raising awareness about the importance of early detection of testicular cancer. He encouraged men to get regular checkups, emphasizing that early detection can be crucial.
He gets a new start in Toronto, and fans in Vancouver are frustrated with the move.
