Major changes to Canada’s lineup minutes before game vs. Switzerland

Josh Morrissey’s injury wasn’t the only surprise in Canada’s late lineup shuffle

Team Canada made adjustments to its lineup just moments before puck drop against Switzerland on Friday.

Veteran forward Brad Marchand and defenseman Josh Morrissey are both listed as scratches for today’s game. While Morrissey’s absence had been anticipated, it remains a concerning development for the Canadian blue line.

Morrissey exited early in the second period of Thursday’s 5-0 win over Czechia and did not return. He skated on the second pairing alongside Colton Parayko and logged 7:10 of ice time over 13 shifts before heading to the locker room. Canada managed to secure a dominant victory despite finishing the game with just six available defensemen, but his status continues to draw attention.

Marchand’s absence, meanwhile, appears less alarming. The veteran winger could simply be getting a maintenance day as Canada navigates a tight Olympic schedule.

Still, seeing his name out of the lineup is notable given his leadership role and experience in high-stakes tournaments.

In their place, Seth Jarvis and Travis Sanheim will make their Olympic debuts, an exciting opportunity for both players to make an immediate impact on the international stage.

Jordan Binnington will also sit out, adding to the changes to Canada’s lineup.

Logan Thompson and Darcy Kuemper are the two goalies for the Canadians, with the former expected to get the start in net.
