On Friday, the veteran National Hockey League forward caught a big break when prosecutors in Boston dropped the charges he was facing following a domestic incident involving Lucic and his wife. The decision from prosecutors was made after Lucic's wife refused to testify and following a decision from the judge that made the call to 911 on the evening in question inadmissible as evidence.
Lucic's attorney commented on the decision, although Lucic himself declined to offer comment.
"He's very happy, obviously, that this part is over. He wants to get on with his life," said attorney Gary Pelletier as per WCVB. "He wants to get on with his NHL playing career, hopefully with the Bruins, and back as fast as he possibly can."
Unfortunately for Lucic it does not sound like he will be resuming his career with the Bruins anytime soon, and you have to wonder about his NHL future as a whole following this incident. The Bruins released a statement following the decision that confirmed Lucic would not be returning to the team.
"Milan Lucic will remain on indefinite leave from the organization for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.," wrote the Bruins in an official statement. "The Boston Bruins organization supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal rehabilitation."
Lucic is a free man, but his NHL career may be over.
