This may happened sooner than I thought… Earlier today, we reported thanks to Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun that Flames’ forward Johnny Gaudreau could be on the move. While he wasn’t sure about what a move could implied, he put together his idea of what the asking price for a return could be.

On top of that, we pointed out how fans have been reacting to Max Domi looking to be done with the Montreal Canadiens. On Monday, Domi altered his social media sites’ description boxes, removing Montreal from them and acting like he might be done with the Habs after all.

And now this: according to Catherine Vaillancourt of Metro Media in Montreal, the Canadiens and Flames are currently negotiating on a possible trade involving the two forwards.

And there is more to it: Vaillancourt reports that the move would also involve prospect Ryan Poehling and the Habs’ first round pick in this year’s draft, which will be the 16th selection overall.

Domi is coming off a $3.1 million annual salary and has arbitration rights. He had a decent season scoring 44 points (17 goals + 27 assists in 71 games), but it was a step-back from his first season in Montreal in 2018-19 when Domi recorded 71 points (28G+44A) in 82 games.

Gaudreau’s name has surfaced more than once in trade chatter and his disappointing performance in the postseason has pushed him on the trade block.

Poehling only posted two points with the Habs in this shortened season, and wasn’t asked to be part of the lineup in the playoffs. He also managed to put up 13 points in 36 contests in the AHL and has a year left on his deal before he becomes a restricted free agent.

So, would you pull the trigger?
