Major update on Elliotte Friedman's future at Sportsnet.

Over the weekend there were significant reports suggesting that the insider landscape in the National Hockey League could take a drastic shift with Amazon reportedly making a strong offer for the services of insider Elliotte Friedman, but those reports are now being called into question.

A new report from Toronto media insider Jonah Sigel has indicated that, while Friedman has not officially re-signed a new deal with Rogers and Sportsnet, most terms of that deal have been agreed to already. Sigel reports that Friedman is currently vacationing overseas and seems confident that the NHL's top insider will remain exactly where he has been these past several years.

Sigel also reports that the idea of a blockbuster offer from Amazon appears to have been largely exaggerated. While it seems clear that Friedman did have discussions with the multinational giant, it doesn't sound like there was any real chance of Friedman being pried away from his current home.

"Amazon wasn't going to blow up their entire payroll for an insider," said Sigel's source on the matter.

That is of course great news for fans of hockey in Canada with Friedman having developed into one of the most beloved figures on Canadian NHL broadcasts over the years. There is still of course the matter of Kevin Bieksa who is reportedly being lured by a company south of the border, although nothing official yet on that front either.
