The Jets have just provided this early update following terrifying scene Tuesday night.
There is a positive update on Winnipeg Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury following the frightening incident that saw him stretchered off the ice and taken to hospital Tuesday night.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirmed Wednesday that Fleury was released from the hospital late last night. According to Arniel, Fleury suffered a broken nose and a bruised back as a result of the violent collision into the end boards. He will also require further testing to evaluate a possible concussion.
Despite the severity of the crash, Arniel added that Fleury was around the rink and with the team on Wednesday morning, an encouraging sign following what was a deeply concerning scene just hours earlier.
Fleury was injured late in the first period against the Vegas Golden Knights after being shoved by Keegan Kolesar and sliding uncontrollably into the end boards, his back taking the brunt of the impact. Medical staff attended to him on the ice before he was placed on a backboard and stretcher and transported to hospital by ambulance.
While Fleury was seen moving on the ice, the decision to immobilize him was made out of precaution, given the nature of the collision and the areas involved. The incident immediately raised concern among players, coaches, and fans inside the building.
Kolesar was not penalized on the play but dropped the gloves with Jets captain Adam Lowry when play resumed. The Golden Knights eventually won the game 4–3 in overtime, though the result felt secondary given the seriousness of Fleury’s injury.
The Jets are expected to provide further updates once concussion testing and additional evaluations are completed.
