UPDATE: It appears that New York Rangers captain JT Miller has avoided a serious injury. Miller went down hard in practice earlier today and appeared to injury his knee. There was some concern that he was seriously hurt as he couldn't get off the ice on his own.

From Rangers insider Vince Mercogliano:

The New York Rangers have been given quite the scare on Monday morning, with no sign yet of how serious this might be.

According to a report from Rangers insider Mollie Walker, newly minted Rangers captain J.T. Miller was injured during the team's morning skate and has left the ice as a result of that injury. It is unclear what exactly happened to cause the injury to Miller, and all that we know for certain at this time is that Miller appeared to be in pain as he left the ice.

Update: According to Walker, Miller did not return to the ice following his exit but there has been no further update on his status as of yet.

Miller was of course only just recently named captain of the Rangers after the team underwent a significant roster shuffle during the course of last season, one that saw them bring in Miller via trade while also moving on from veterans like Chris Kreider.

Miller had a great showing during his brief stint with the Rangers putting up 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points in only 32 games, so good in fact that the Rangers chose to make him captain after such a short period of time.

Miller is known to be a fiery competitor, one who holds his teammates accountable, and it was that very same fire that led to him being traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Rangers in the first place.

The Rangers have clearly put a lot of faith in Miller and any kind of significant injury here could be a huge blow to their aspirations this season.

Update 2: Here is video of Miller leaving the ice.

Update 3: A look at the moment the injury ocurred.

Stay tuned for more updates on this rapidly developing situation.
