The recent Memorial Cup winner has been linked to a number of NHL teams over the last few weeks.

Former National Hockey League goaltender and head coach Patrick Roy has been making all kinds of headlines lately, and that noise is only likely to pick up steam with his Quebec Remparts coming fresh off of a Memorial Cup win over the weekend.

Roy has been linked to a number of head coaching vacancies around the NHL, with arguably the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers being the two teams most often mentioned in connection to Roy, but it would seem that at least one of those jobs won't be an option for the legendary netminder.

On Monday morning, Rangers insider Molly Walker reported that the Rangers are in fact not in the hunt for Roy and perhaps never were. According to Walker the Rangers have never reached out to Roy as a part of their coaching search and have no intention of doing so moving forward.

Prior to the start of the season Roy announced that he would be stepping down from his role as head coach of the Remparts, fueling speculation that an NHL job could be something that Roy could be interested in.

The two candidates believed to be the favorites for the Rangers vacant head coaching job are Peter Laviolette and John Hynes, in that order, and there's little doubt that Patrick Roy would have been a spicier name. Whether or not another NHL coaching job remains in Roy's future remains to be seen, but it doesn't sound like it will be with the Rangers this season.
