According to a report from Bob Duff of The Detroit Times, the Detroit Red Wings are expecting captain Dylan Larkin to attend training camp and play for the team this upcoming season, despite his highly publicized trade demands.

Duff reports that Detroit's management is hopeful that the removal of former GM Steve Yzerman will help to ease tensions between the team and its captain.

In my opinion, this has the potential to go backwards real fast and in a very bad way.

Larkin clearly doesn't want to be a part of this team and the Red Wings can't afford another wasted season. By not addressing their biggest issue this offseason, the Red Wings risk bringing all that baggage into a pivotal season. The best course of action, at this point, is to probably take the best offer that they can get for Larkin and move on.

There's no denying Larkin's skill, but if he's mentally checked out and he's meant to be the leader of your team... well that's a recipe for disaster. Still, it seems that this is the path that Red Wings management, headed up by owner Chris Ilitch, are happy to walk down this upcoming season.
