Makar has his face accidentally kicked by teammate, narrowly avoids injury

That's as close as it gets! His visor saves the day!

In case you missed it last night, the Colorado Avalanche managed to just sneak past the Ottawa Senators by a score of 7-5 thanks in large part to the tidy work of star defenseman Cale Makar.

I mean... just look how buttery smooth this guy is:

But here's the thing... the night almost ended in absolute disaster for Makar and the Avs...

Earlier in the game Makar's defensive partner Erik Johnson was making a quick line change, but lost his balance while climbing over the boards. Johnson's right foot shot directly back just as Makar appeared to be leaning forward to presumably grab some water. The result is as close to a catastrophic injury as I've seen this season and it looks like Makar's visor saves him from a gruesome cut.

Check it out:

Hoo boy... just watching that gives me the heebie jeebies....

You sometimes forget that these guys are skating around at all times with sharp razor blades on their feet. It's actually surprising that we don't see more accidental injuries as it relates to the comings and goings of the bench. How many times a game do guys hop the boards without a second thought? Again, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
