A seemingly deranged man has been arrested after threatening to murder a number of NHL hockey fans inside of T-Mobile Arena.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has potentially saved the lives of many, many, National Hockey League fans who were in attendance at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Game 5 between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers.

A report from ESPN has revealed that, just hours before Game 5 was set to take place, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect named Matthew DeSavio after he threatened to carry out a mass shooting during the event. The man, who police say has a history of mental illness, was arrested just 4 hours prior to the start of the game and at this time it is still unclear just how serious his threat was.

Las Vegas was of course the site of a terrible mass shooting that killed 60 people in October of 2017, and no doubt these threats put the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on high alert. Thankfully they acted quickly and removed any possibility of a threat against those attending the Stanley Cup Final.

DeSavio largely tipped law enforcement off himself after a series of rambling text messages, posts on social media and phone calls in which he made the threat repeatedly resulted in several calls being placed to 911. DeSavio was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at the workplace of one of the 911 callers, a woman that claims she has been harrassed by DeSavio for years.

He now faces charges of threatening an act of terrorism, and hopefully he will get the help he needs and will be kept away from those he could potentially harm in the future.
