Mantha injury worse than feared after bodyslam by Muzzin

Oh man, this is ugly. Gotta feel for the kid.

It’s been a season to forget for Detroit Red Wings fans. Sure, the franchise welcomed legend Steve Yzerman back into the fold and there are some exciting young players in the team’s lineup… but there ain’t much else to cheer for.

Yzerman’s hiring has been the lone highlight to a dreadful season with the team set to put forth their worst point total in team history. The 31st place Wings have 28 points in 54 games… to put that in perspective the 30th place Los Angeles Kings have 43 points. Ouch.

To put it bluntly, this team sucks.

The good news is with young players like Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi, Anthony Mantha, Filip Zadina, Filip Hornek and Dennis Cholowski the Red Wings could turn things around in a few years time. Mantha, in particular, was playing like a man possessed before going down with injury in late December. The 24 year old had 12 goals and 24 points in 29 games before being absolutely SLAMMED to the ice by Toronto Maple Leafs blueliner Jake Muzzin.

Remember this?

Double ouch.

Mantha hasn’t played since, even though he was just expected to be out of the team’s lineup for a short while.

Well, according to a report from Red Wings insider Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Mantha will be out awhile longer. Why? Well… because Muzzin collapsed his damn lung with his WWE style bodyslam.

Check it out:

Triple ouch. A punctured lung!? Good grief that sounds awful. Here’s hoping the kid can get back to full health and help turn things around for this one perennial powerhouse of a franchise.
