On Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks shipped out winger Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs in return for a fourth-round pick.

Thomas Drance was first to report the transaction.

Moments later, the Maple Leafs confirmed the trade, adding that the pick sent to Vancouver is a selection in the 2028 NHL Draft.

Joshua is back in Toronto in some sorts where he was selected in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He however never signed with the Maple Leafs, and had his signing rights traded to the Blues after he wrapped up his collegiate career with Ohio State in 2019. In St. Louis, he played under Craig Berube, who is now the head coach in Toronto.

Through 57 games with the Canucks during the 2024-25 season, Joshua recorded seven goals and 14 points. He has posted 78 points (40 goals, 38 assists) in 241 career regular season NHL games split between Vancouver and St. Louis while collecting eight points (four goals, four assists) in 14 career playoff games.

Joshua gets a fresh start where it all began in Toronto.
