Maple Leafs and Bruins strike major deal right at the deadline!
🚨 TRADE ALERT! Details down below:
Pending a trade call, since this one came right at the deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins.
THESE ARE THE TRADE DETAILS:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have entered the transaction. Boston is getting Toronto’s first round pick along with top prospect Fraser Minten, while the Pens are parting with a late-round draft pick to take Conor Timmins and Connor Dewar from Toronto, seeing the Maple Leafs needed to clear salary.
After acquiring forward Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers earlier in the day, the Maple Leafs make this huge addition to the back end, addressing both needs in Toronto.
Carlo has a goal and nine points in 63 games this season while averaging 18:46 of ice time.
The 6-foot-5 right-shot defenseman is expected to be a game-changer for the Leafs and their projected playoff run.
He is on the fourth season of a six-year, $24.6 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $4.1 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
However to get Carlo, the Maple Leafs had to part with Fraser Minten, who's now on his way to Boston.
The Bruins are also retaining 15 per cent on Brandon Carlo's salary.
