It would appear that a pair of Canadian teams may be battling over the same player ahead of the National Hockey League's trade deadline.

On Saturday, Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco reported some interesting details regarding the future of Philadelphia Flyers veteran forward Scott Laughton, most notable of which was the fact that both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets appear to have considerable interest in prying Laughton away from the Flyers.

Additionally, according to Di Marco talks around Laughton are heating up and with the Four Nations Face-Off just around the corner it makes sense that teams are ramping up their pressure when it comes to making a deal.

Laughton is a versatile forward with a wealth of NHL experience under his belt and is exactly the kind of trade target you expect contenders to look for ahead of the trade deadline. Over his 654 game NHL career Laughton has 105 goals and 158 assists for a total of 263 career points in the league. This season he has 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 53 games with the Flyers.

Laughton is an interesting option as he is not a pure rental with one more year remaining on his current contract. Laughton is in the 4th year of a 5 year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $3 million per season.

Of course only one team will be able to acquire the gritty Flyers forward at the end of the day and that could mean good news for the Flyers who might see their return for Laughton improve with multiple teams in the mix.
