Regardless of the backlash that it caused, the National Hockey League proceeded with the decision to allow their teams to officially introduce sponsorships on their helmets and sweaters as a way of making up for revenue lost from the multiple game cancellations owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, they began to display the logo of the popular and sometimes controversial social-media platform TikTok on their helmets. But heading into the 2023-24 season, that came to an end. The familiar Leafs logo returned to the player helmets, and remained in place until it was announced this week that a new sponsorship was on the way.
Starting now, the Leafs helmet sponsor is Pizza Pizza, one of Canada's largest pizza franchises.
The new look will make its debut tonight as the Leafs host the Florida Panthers at Scotiabank Arena.
