Maple Leafs share an official update just hours before puck drop on Saturday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will once again be without one of their top players as they desperately look to climb their way out of the basement of the Atlantic Division's standings very early on in the season.
On Saturday, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube officially confirmed that star forward William Nylander would once again be out of the lineup due to injury. Nylander was injured during a game against the Buffalo Sabres back on the 13th of October after he was on the receiving end of a crosscheck to the back and rib area courtesy of Sabres veteran Jason Zucker. Nylander will now miss his third game out of the last 4 for the Maple Leafs, very atypical for Nylander who has earned a reputation as a durable player that tends to avoid injuries.
Nylander has indicated that he is feeling better since the initial blow but there must be some lingering issues if he is once again being held out of the lineup, especially with the way his team has struggled out of the gate this season.
Nylander is an incredibly important player for the Maple Leafs and was off to a hot start this season with 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points in just 9 games played, making him impossible to replace in the lineup. When combined with the loss of star forward Mitch Marner during the offseason, the Maple Leafs have had their offensive talent seriously depleted early in the season.
