There is sad news to report out of the National Hockey League this evening.
Toronto Maple Leafs veteran defenseman Mark Giordano lost his father Paul, who passed away suddenly on Thursday night. The Leafs made the following announcement on social media:
"The Toronto Maple Leafs are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Paul Giordano, father of Mark Giordano, on Thursday night. Our prayers are with Mark and his family during this incredibly difficult time and we ask for their privacy."
Giordano has appeared in 36 games for the Leafs this season, which is anticipated to be potentially his last NHL season. He's tallied one goal with six assists along with a plus-6 rating.
