Maple Leafs attempting to trade Wayne Simmonds.

A huge announcement from the Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are attempting to move on from a veteran player and it is a very big name in the form of Wayne Simmonds.

According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs have made it known to rival teams that they are attempting to trade Simmonds NHL. contract. This sounds like it may be something of a complicated situation and not your typical trade scenario, with Friedman indicating that the Maple Leafs are trying to do the right thing here and honor Simmonds wishes as best as they can.

The 34 year old veteran winger appeared in 72 games for the Maple Leafs last season, tallying 5 goals and 11 assists for a total of 16 points on the season. He would finish that campaign with 96 penalty minutes and a plus minus rating of -7, and would only appear in a pair of playoff games for the Leafs during their short run in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Simmonds has looked a step slow in training camp but is in the final year of a relatively affordable deal that comes in at an average annual valuer and cap hit of $900,000 for this season, although it includes a little bit more money with Simmonds earning $1.05 million in actual salary this season.

Simmonds also has a 10 team no-trade list in this year of his deal, although given the Leafs expressed desire to do right by the player this may not even matter.

Stay tuned for more details.
