Maple Leafs brutally mocked and booed by fans during terrible showing in Game 5!
It ain’t over, but it also looks like it’s never started for Toronto. Story down below:
It was said more than once ahead of tonight’s Game 5 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers: this is a crucial contest in what has become a best of three series.
Unfortunately for Leafs’ fans and insiders, the team did not get the message.
After 40 minutes of play, the Maple Leafs and most of their players, especially forward Scott Laughton, are getting brutally mocked and humiliated on social media. It especially went while when Laughton deflected the Panthers’ second goal of the evening on his own goalie Joseph.
The calls started with insiders attending the game chiming in:
“And who said Scott Laughton couldn’t score?” wrote Ken Campbell.
“Panthers game plan: Dominate O-zone possession.
Maple Leafs game plan: Hope William Nylander scores on all his breakaways,” posted Luke Fox.
“2-0 Panthers… and the Leafs do not look like they’re getting two tonight.
Building dead quiet here now,” said James Mirtle.
One mean blow came from Ryan Whitney, who took a shot at his Spittin Chiclets’ podcast co-host Paul Bissonnette, posting:
“Watching the Leafs makes me so thankful I’m an Oilers fan.”
Moments after these posts, it only got worse for Toronto with the Panthers taking a 3-0 lead thanks to a brutal turnover by Mitch Marner.
The silence was deafening at Scotiabank Arena. I can’t believe fans held back from booing Max Domi, who took a dumb penalty, taking a slashing penalty after he was clearly unhappy that Matthew Tkachuk wouldn’t engage him in a fight.
Towards the end of the second frame, it was Woll's turn to fall apart, with Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola joining the scoring parade.
Some fans believe the Matt Murray has begun...
This time, fans attending the game weren't silent and were heard booing the Leafs in the last minutes of the period and then on their way out to the dressing room after 40 minutes.
