Maple Leafs could do the unthinkable with Matt Murray

Who saw this coming?

The Matt Murray experience with the Toronto Maple Leafs appeared to have reached its conclusion, as he was placed on LTIR by the team despite having been healthy enough to play in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

But for everyone anticipating to see Murray eventually back in the NHL but wearing another sweater, you'd better not hold your breath. According to writer Nick Kypreos, the goaltender is on track to re-join the Leafs at some point after the NHL Trade Deadline, and could even get into some game action.

And if that weren't enough, Kypreos also states that the Leafs could even consider re-signing him!

He writes:

"As mentioned in my notes a few weeks ago, goaltender Matt Murray is working himself back with the Leafs this season. He’s on schedule to rejoin the team after the trade deadline and is expected to play some games before the regular season ends. The Leafs have not ruled out the potential of re-signing him."

How strange would it be to see Murray back with Toronto at some point and even remain with the organization beyond this season?
