Maple Leafs could target trio of free agents this summer
How would one or more of these players look in the blue and white?
The Toronto Maple Leafs have already taken care of an important matter of offseason business, having made the decision to terminate head coach Sheldon Keefe and then replace him with Craig Berube. But the work for general manager Brad Treliving and President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan is just starting.
There are plenty of pending free agents that may or may not be back with the Leafs next season, and among them are Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, Ilya Samsonov, T.J. Brodie, and Joel Edmundson. Meanwhile, veteran defenseman and elder statesman Mark Giordano almost certainly has played his last game with the Leafs.
But in the meantime, there could also be one or more notable additions to the roster. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, a trio of pending free agents could attract interest from the Leafs in Nikita Zadorov, Dakota Joshua, and Victor Arvidsson.
Zadorov played last season with the Calgary Flames before being dealt to the Vancouver Canucks; he's played in a total of 642 NHL games, scoring 47 goals with 99 assists. Joshua, his teammate in Vancouver, scored 18 goals and 14 assists in 63 games this past season, and has also suited up with the St. Louis Blues during his NHL career.
Meanwhile, Arvidsson is coming off an injury-riddled campaign that saw him only appear in 18 games in 2023-24, scoring six goals with nine assists. In 546 games with the Nashville Predators and Los Angeles Kings, he's tallied a total of 179 goals and 183 assists.
