THIS JUST IN in Toronto.
Goalie Joseph Woll departed from Toronto Maple Leafs training camp last month, and since then, the team has leaned heavily on Anthony Stolarz in net. However on Friday afternoon, it was announced that Woll is returning to the team after his leave of absence.
The Maple Leafs went on to corroborate Johnston's report, adding that Woll will resume team activities and on-ice participation as part of the return-to-play process.
Just earlier this week, as head coach Craig Berube answered questions on his team’s struggles, he was asked the latest update on the absent goalie. The bench boss had said:
“When he’s back he’s back.” Asked if Woll had been skating, he repeated the same line.
Woll appeared in 42 games during the 2024-25 season, posting a 27-14-1 record with a .909 save percentage (SV%) and 2.73 goals against average (GAA) with one shutout. In seven playoff games, Woll went 3-4 with an .886 SV% and 3.56 GAA in seven games. Through four NHL seasons, the 2016 third-round pick is 48-27-2 with a .910 SV% and 2.74 GAA in 78 career games. In 14 career Stanley Cup Playoff appearances, he’s 6-6 with a .906 SV% and 2.73 GAA.
Back in July 2024, the Maple Leafs signed Woll to a three-year deal, paying him an annual average value (AAV) of $3.66 million through the 2027-28 season.
