The Toronto Maple Leafs made significant changes to their roster over the course of this past offseason, with the most notable being the departure of former Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner, and as a result there has been a ton of excitement and a ton of questions around what the Maple Leafs lineup will look like once the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season gets under way.

On Monday morning we may have been given a preview of just that when the Leafs hit the ice for a morning skate just 2 days removed for their upcoming season opener against the Montreal Canadiens this coming Wednesday.

It would seem that Craig Berube was not a fan of the experiment that saw veteran forward Max Domi on the top line alongside Leafs captain Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies with Finnish forward Matias Maccelli slotted in that spot on Monday. Interestingly enough rookie forward Easton Cowan was on the outside looking in as the extra forward with the four top lines being filled out without him despite both David Kampf and Michael Pezzetta being placed on waivers.

Here is how the forward lines looked on Monday:

Knies – Matthews – Maccelli

McMann – Tavares – Nylander

Joshua – Domi – Robertson

Lorentz – Roy – Järnkrok

Simon Benoit was the odd man out when it comes to the blue line with Benoit the 7th defenseman on Monday with the team's top 3 pairings filled out without him.

Here is how the defensive pairings looked on Monday:

Rielly – Carlo

McCabe – Tanev

Ekman-Larsson - Benoit

There were of course no surprises at the goaltending position with Joseph Woll still away from the team on a leave of absence.

Here is how the goalies looked on Monday:

Stolarz

Hildeby

Now things could change very quickly here given that we know veteran forward Scott Laughton has been sidelined by injury but barring any drastic changes this looks like the lineup the Leafs will seek to deploy in their very first game of the season.
