The Leafs are still searching for the right piece to complement captain Auston Matthews, and this may be the answer.
The Maple Leafs’ offseason focus continues to center on finding the right fit next to Auston Matthews. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, one name to keep an eye on is Jack Roslovic, whose name keeps being mentioned in Toronto.
Appearing on the Donnie and Dhali Show, Friedman suggested that Toronto has shown strong interest in the 27-year-old forward, even envisioning him as a potential winger on the team’s top line.
“A guy like Jack Roslovic, I think Toronto was looking at him… potentially as a winger on the number one line,” Friedman said.
Still an unrestricted free agent ahead of the season, Roslovic, who split last season between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes, has the kind of versatility Toronto values. While not a superstar, he has the ability to play up and down the lineup and chip in offensively, giving the Leafs some flexibility. Slotting him next to Matthews could provide a different dynamic for a team still looking to replace the departed Mitch Marner’s production.
That said, Roslovic isn’t Toronto’s only option as the Leafs could instead choose to look at internal candidates such as Max Domi, Nick Robertson, Calle Järnkrok, and even rising prospect Easton Cowan are all in the mix to earn minutes on the top line. Domi’s playmaking, Robertson’s scoring upside, and Cowan’s impressive development path give the Leafs multiple routes to explore.
Still, adding a player like Roslovic could stabilize the lineup. If he slots next to Matthews and finds chemistry, it allows head coach Craig Berube to spread out the offense more evenly across the forward group.
But for now, Toronto’s search continues, and Friedman’s comments suggest the Leafs may already have their sights set on a potential solution.
Stay tuned.
