The Toronto Maple Leafs can ill afford to lose another defenseman to injury, but that appears to be the case. During the 2nd period of tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, Jordie Benn departed for the dressing room and did not return to action.
He attempted to come out for the 3rd period, but would soon return to the dressing room, where he would remain for the remainder of regulation.
According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Benn suffered an upper body injury; they'll know more about the significance of the setback tomorrow.
Benn, who finished with 9:36 total ice time, had just returned recently from a groin injury that he suffered during the team's exhibition schedule. With Morgan Rielly and Jake Muzzin out long term along with TJ Brodie not progressing as hoped, the Leafs could be in dire straights.
