You would not expect teams to begin claiming players off of waivers on the National Hockey League's Trade Deadline day, but that is exactly what has just happened to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

According to a breaking news report from Sportsnet's National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Detroit Red Wings have just claimed Dmytro Timashov off of the waiver wire after the Leafs made the decision to waive Timashov after their humiliating loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Although this may feel like an unfortunate loss for the Leafs it sounds like they were going to be losing Timashov one way or another in the near future. There are now rumblings that Timashov, or his representation, may have approached Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas and requested a change of scenery, and that may in fact have played a factor in Timashov being waved.

Nonetheless the Leafs are now out a 23 year old forward, much to the delight of the Detroit Red Wings and their general manager Steve Yzerman.
