Leafs lose a forward.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost one of their depth forwards.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Chris Johnston, veteran NHL forward Michael Amadio was claimed off waivers on Saturday. Amadio was waived by the Leafs on Friday and today we learned that the Las Vegas Golden Knights have submitted a claim for the forward.

This marks the end of a very brief stint with the Maple Leafs for Amadio, one that lasted just 3 regular season games. Over that stretch of play Amadio recorded no goals, no assists, and no penalty minutes but he did finish that stretch with a plus minus rating of +1. The Leafs had picked up Amadio in the offseason by signing him to a low risk deal, 1 year at $750,000, likely a move influenced at least in part by the fact that Amadio could serve as an insurance policy in the event that Auston Matthews was unavailable to start the season due to his wrist injury.

Prior to playing with the Maple Leafs the 25 year old centerman spent last season split between the Los Angeles Kings and the Ottawa Senators. He appeared in a total of 25 games for those teams and had 3 points on the season, all of which were assists.

It is an interesting move on the part of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, a team that has notably been in the market for a center in recent days. Rumors this week suggested that there had been some traction on trade talks involving the Golden Knights and the Buffalo Sabres as it pertains to a trade involving star centerman Jack Eichel, but thus far nothing has materialized on that front. I am in no way shape or form trying to suggest that the Golden Knights are viewing Amadio as a replacement for Eichel, but he does fit a need for them up the middle of the ice at this time and it hasn't cost them anything to acquire him.

The former third round pick (90th overall) of the Los Angeles Kings and the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft brings 176 games of NHL experience to the Golden Knights, over which he has 16 career goals and 24 career assists for a total of 40 career points in the NHL.
