Maple Leafs lose one of the most important members of their front office.

A huge loss for the Maple Leafs as changes continue to be announced.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made major changes to their front office over the last few weeks and now comes perhaps the most significant change of them all.

Although there has been no announcement of any kind on the part of the Maple Leafs at this time, according to a report from Toronto columnist Steve Simmons, the Maple Leafs have lost the services of cap guru Brandon Pridham.

From Simmons:

Brandon Pridham, whose front office work has been essential for the past 12 seasons in Toronto, especially through the COVID years, is leaving the Maple Leafs. The assistant GM and chief salary cap guru won’t be easily replaced.

Although Pridham may not be a household name to the average Maple Leafs fan, fans who have closely followed the team over the years know that the Maple Leafs have often leaned on Pridham's well of knowledge when it comes to the National Hockey League's salary cap in order to maximize their cap space each season.

Pridham has often been referred to as a capologist or a cap genius, and there's no question that his departure represents a major shift for the Maple Leafs.

Pridham has also remained with the Maple Leafs despite much front office turmoil over the years, with Pridham working under multiple different leadership structures during his 12 year tenure with the team.

Chayka himself is considered a bit of a numbers wizard in his own right and you have to wonder if this was a decision made by Pridham himself or if the new Maple Leafs general manager simply felt that Pridham was no longer necessary under his new leadership structure.

No word yet on what might be next for Pridham, but given the level of praise his work has received in recent years I would not be surprised to see him land a job with a rival team in the NHL.
