Maple Leafs make another significant trade, moving Scott Laughton!

The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly traded veteran forward Scott Laughton to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a third round pick, that becomes a second if LA makes the playoffs.

Sure looks like the start of a retooling phase in Toronto.

Fans waited until the final buzzer of the deadline to see that the sale was on in Toronto.

Laughton, whom was acquired by the Maple Leafs from the Philadelphia Flyers at last year's deadline, has 12 points in 43 games this season. He's won 56.7% of his draws.

He was traded today just moments after the announcement that teammate Bobby McMann was also on the move. McMann is sent to the Seattle Kraken in return for a 2nd round pick (2027) and a 4th round pick (2026) from the Kraken.

On Thursday, the Maple Leafs traded forward Nicolas Roy to the Colorado Avalanche in return for a conditional first-round pick at the 2027 draft along with a fifth-rounder.

In the event the first-round selection falls inside the top-10, the Avalanche would instead send the Maple Leafs their unprotected first-rounder in 2028. Toronto also gets the lowest of Colorado’s three picks in the fifth round of the 2026 draft as part of the swap.

On Friday, Toronto also moved Bobby McMann to the Seattle Kraken. The Maple Leafs received a 2026 fourth-round pick and a second-round pick in 2027 from the Kraken for McMann.

What's significant in both deals made today if that things did not play out how they'd been anticipated.

“The failures here start with me,” GM Brad Treliving admitted in his press conference.

With everyone thinking there were several possible sell-off moves still to be made, Treliving only pulled off two on Friday...
