The extended family of the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a loss earlier this month with the passing of former forward Gerry James at the age of 89.

"The NHL Alumni Association is saddened to learn that Gerry James has passed away at the age of 89. Gerry joined the Maple Leafs in the 1954-55 for one game before playing full-time with the Leafs. He would go on to play 149 career NHL games, scoring 40 points.

James had an unusual, and exciting sports career playing in the NHL, as well in the CFL. Gerry was a star for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL, and was a 4x Grey Cup Champion.

We send our deepest condolences to Gerry’s family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time."

He played in a total of 149 NHL games with the Maple Leafs, scoring 14 goals and 26 assists. Additionally, he enjoyed a productive career in football, eventually being entered into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
