The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to break out of their current skid when they host the suddenly hot Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Scotiabank Arena, and it will be a very special night for a young member of their roster.
Swedish forward Pontus Holmberg will be making his National Hockey League debut after being recalled from the American Hockey League affiliate Toronto Marlies; in a corresponding move, veteran Wayne Simmonds was sent down.
Holmberg, who doesn't quite have a firm grasp on the English language just yet, will be skating on an all Swedish line with Calle Jarnkrok and Pierre Engvall.
"At his first dev camp, I was his translator," teammate Rasmus Sandin recalled. "He's just super excited for today and I think he's going to bring the same game here as he does in the AHL."
Holmberg has two assists in seven games played for the Marlies this season so far.
