Something has gone terribly wrong.
I unfortunately have some very serious news to bring you today.
In a shocking announcement, the Toronto Maple Leafs revealed on Monday morning that veteran National Hockey League forward Max Domi will be out indefinitely. Now that may seem strange given the timing of the news, the Maple Leafs have been out of action for weeks already, but unfortunately this is an extremely serious situation.
According to an official press release, Domi has suffered complications stemming from a corrective surgery he recently underwent in order to address an issue that hindered him throughout all of last season. The Maple Leafs did not share any additional details on the nature of the surgery or the nature of the complications, but given how far out we are from the regular season this does not sound good at all.
Here is the Maple Leafs statement in full:
Forward Max Domi underwent offseason surgery to address an issue he played through during the 2025-26 season. Due to complications arising from the procedure, Domi will be out indefinitely.
Domi will continue working with the club's medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp.
Like many Maple Leafs, Domi had his fair share of struggles last season and managed just 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points over 80 games last season. He finished with an abysmal plus minus rating of -29 over the full season, but given this most recent update it seems fair to suggest that at least a portion of his struggles stemmed from the injury that required corrective surgery to repair.
I of course am hoping for Domi to make a full and speedy recovery from these complications.
Stay tuned for more updates.
