Maple Leafs roasted at RBC Canadian Open.
The Toronto Maple Leafs somehow became the butt of the joke over the weekend at the Canadian Open.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were grilled over how they made their exit from the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs last month and unfortunately for the Maple Leafs it would seem that comments and jokes that have been made at their expense have only just begun.
Over the weekend the PGA Tour came to Canada for the annual Canadian Open and the star attraction at the event was undoubtedly professional golfer Rory McIlroy. McIlroy has seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years and was the favorite coming into the tournament, that is at least until he was cursed by the local sports team.
You see McIlroy was given a jersey while attending the tournament, which is being held at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, and of course given that the tournament is in Toronto the jersey was a Maple Leafs jersey. It even featured McIlroy's name on the back and everything, and it is now being blamed for his downfall at the tournament.
Since being gifted the jersey it would be no exaggeration to say that McIlroy was on pace to have the worst tournament of his life before being ousted in the first round of eliminations. Of course McIlroy's early exit from the tournament after being gifted the jersey has brought on the ridicule for the Maple Leafs, with rival fans insisting that McIlroy was merely being a good sport by keeping the Maple Leafs tradition of making an early exit alive.
Here is a look at a shot of McIlroy receiving the jersey:
