Maple Leafs struck by one of the worst curses in all of sports hours before Game 7.

The fat lady may already be singing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the puck hasn't even dropped yet in Game 7 of their second round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Florida Panthers.

The Maple Leafs, through no fault of their own, have just been inflicted with one of the worst curses in the world of professional sports, a curse so terrible that I genuinely wonder if they will be able to overcome it this evening. I am of course referring to the "Drake Curse" a legendary curse that has haunted teams and professional athletes for well over a decade now.

On Sunday, ahead of Game 7, Drake took to Instagram to ask his fans if he should place a large wager on the Maple Leafs in Game 7 with the vast majority of those fans encouraging him to do so. Drake followed through and has made a massive bet in the amount of $1 million for the Maple Leafs to triumph over the Panthers this evening.

The curse stems from the fact that rapper and recording artist Drake has a habit of making big public wagers only for those wagers to spectacularly backfire for him, often leading to ridicule on social media. There have been a number of high profile incidents across a variety of sports over the years with Drake often being blamed by fans for cursing their favorite athlete or team.

Some examples of this include Drake's support of his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs in April of 2019 before they succumbed to the Boston Bruins in 7 games, his support of UFC fighter Conor McGregor before what many deem to be a career defining loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov and boxer Anthony Joshua who lost in a shocking upset to newcomer Francis Ngannou.
