The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings will be forced to adjust thanks to the success of a third team in an entirely unrelated sport.

The National Hockey League has officially announced that this upcoming Monday's game between the visiting Red Wings and Maple Leafs will be moved, with the success of the Toronto Blue Jays being listed as the official reason for the move.

The game, which was originally scheduled for 4 pm EST will now instead be played 2 hours earlier at 2 pm EST in an effort to avoid any potential scheduling conflicts with what would be Game 3 of Major League Baseball's American League Championship Series.

Now to be clear the NHL isn't trying to accomodate MLB with this move but is instead trying to accommodate the fans in the city of Toronto who will now have something of a double-header to enjoy on what is Canadian Thanksgiving. The Blue Jays game is scheduled to start at 4:32 pm EST or 5:03 pm EST depending on which teams advance in the MLB playoffs.

The Toronto Blue Jays are owned by Rogers Communications and that very same company owns a majority stake in MLSE, the parent company of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and is also the NHL rights holder when it comes to televising hockey games in Canada. It is fairly easy to see why Rogers Communications would want to avoid competing with itself on Monday and why the NHL would want to accommodate one of its major partners.

"The Blue Jays playoff excitement has captured the entire city and we want to help make sure that fans don’t miss a pitch," said MLSE president and ceo Keith Pelley in a statement, "We greatly appreciate the cooperation by the NHL and Amazon Prime to make this time change possible and we all look forward to cheering on both the Leafs and the Blue Jays on Monday afternoon and evening."

Make sure to make the adjustments to your own schedules or risk missing out on what will be an important divisional game for both of the NHL team's involved.
