As it currently stands, the Detroit Red Wings have a logjam on the blue line that has resulted in young and promising defenseman Simon Edvinsson largely being confined to the American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins for the majority of the year.
Additionally, one particular veteran blue liner that was signed in the offseason by Detroit hasn't seen much action. Justin Holl, who spent the first portion of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs before agreeing to join Detroit with a three-year contract this past summer, has only played in 35 games in his first campaign with Detroit, registering five assists with a +7 rating.
Could the Leafs be considering a reunion with Holl? On the most recent "32 Thoughts" podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, they floated the possibility that Toronto could look to bring him back into the fold.
"Toronto is looking for right-shot defenseman, you know who's available," asked Friedman, to which Marek replied, "Justin Holl." Friedman responded with a simple "yup".
Holl is in the first year of his contract with Detroit that sees him get paid a total of $3.4 million a season. He's also not played in over a calendar month, having last suited up against the Senators on January 31 at Little Caesars Arena.
Leafs fans, would you be open to a reunion with Holl?
