Maple Leafs unveil lineup for Game 1 against the Panthers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs lineup for Game 1 against the Florida Panthers appears to be set.
A very exciting opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs officially wrapped up on Sunday night and thankfully fans won't have to wait long for more hockey with Round 2 set to get underway less than 24 hours later. It will be a matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers that will kick off Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs when the Maple Leafs welcome the Panthers to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Monday night.
Both teams made relatively quick work of their first round opponents with the Panthers dispatching their intrastate rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning in just 5 games while the Maple Leafs dispatched their intraprovincial rivals the Ottawa Senators in 6 games.
This is expected to be a physical matchup with Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube laughing at the idea that the Panthers are "mean" over the weekend while stating emphatically that his team plays a physical brand of hockey as well. Some took that to mean that we could see some of Toronto's more physical players make an appearance in this series, such as veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves for example, but that no longer appears to be the case.
On Monday the Maple Leafs hit the ice for a morning skate ahead of Game 1 and unveiled the fact that Berube appears to be keeping things status quo moving into Round 2. The Leafs boasted the same lineup when it comes to both forwards and defensemen.
Here is how the lines looked today:
Knies - Matthews - Marner
Pacioretty - Tavares - Nylander
Domi - Holmberg - McMann
Lorentz - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Rielly - Carlo
McCabe - Tanev
Benoit - Ekman-Larsson
This will come as no surprise but it appears that goaltender Anthony Stolarz will once again get the start for the Maple Leafs with Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll once again on the sidelines.
