We all know the Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of their plates, and we aren’t just talking about star players Auston Matthews and William Nylander. On Wednesday, insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Toronto had re-signed forward David Kampf to a four-year contract extension, worth approximately $2.5M AAV. According to Chris Johnston, the official annual average value is $2.4M AAV.
Kampf is coming off the final year of a two-year contract that paid the forward that carried an average annual value of $1.5 million. When the contract was announced by Friedman, fans quickly reacted in frustration to the term and money on the deal.
Kampf has spent his entire time on the team’s bottom-six forward group. He played every game this season, scoring seven goals and adding 20 assists.
Kampf was one of 10 pending unrestricted free agents on the Maple Leafs roster. Other players the Leafs have reportedly spoken to about trying to retain include forwards Alex Kerfoot, Ryan O’Reilly and Noel Acciari as well as defenseman Luke Schenn.
