Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is on a serious mission that everyone around the National Hockey League is aware: the team is focused on shedding salary and needs to explore the trade market.

However, there might just be another goal too.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie recently explained that the Leafs will need to move a player or two in order to fit Zach Hyman’s contract back under the salary cap once he comes off injury reserve later this month. However, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has been told that there is something else on the list.

The Leafs are also checking in on goalie prices around the league.

This is not the first time questions have been raised on backup goalie Michael Hutchinson’s tenure with the Leafs. It has prompted Dubas to inquire with rival clubs and look for another netminder to back-up starting goalie Frederik Andersen.

So far, no names of potential targets have been revealed however TFP seems sure that Dubas is exploring his options.

The Leafs GM has also been shopping three of his own players. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently revealed that the Leafs were dangling defenseman Martin Marincin on the market. It appears that forwards Nic Petan and Nick Shore are also being talked about in trade chatter.

Earlier on Friday, Petan was loaned to the club’s AHL affiliate the Toronto Marlies in an attempt to get him more consistent playing time. As for Marincin and Shore, they both are in the lone year of their respective deals.

A lot happening in TO!
