Marc-Andre Fleury exits the ice for the last time after Vegas defeat Wild
Vegas wins 3 straight games to handle Minnesota in Round 1.
The Vegas Golden Knights are moving on to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 2023 Stanley Cup champions defeated the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 of their opening round playoff series thanks to some gutsy and a crazy finish.
With the Golden Knights already up 2-1 with 4 minutes to play in the 3rd period, captain Mark Stone scored what looked to be an insurance marker to make the score 3-1.
But then just 31 seconds later, Wild forward Ryan Hartman managed to squeak a puck under Vegas netminder Adin Hill to pull his team within one.
From there the Wild went all-out in trying to tie the game... but they simply ran out of time.
Vegas managed to hold on for the win, thereby ending the NHL career of future Hall of Famer Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury, of course, watched the game from the bench while Filip Gustavsson got the start. When Fleury came onto the ice for the post-series handshake lineup, chants of 'FLEURY! FLEURY! FLEURY!' broke out in the crowd.
Check it out:
From there you could tell that Fleury didn't want to make a big deal of his departure and impending retirement so he simply gave the crowd a quick salute and he headed off the ice while being cheered on by his teammates.
Check out this cool moment:
And just like that we watched one of the game's all-time greats step off the ice for the final time.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion is 2nd all-time in NHL wins, behind only Martin Brodeur.
Drafted 1st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003, Fleury posted a career 2.60 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in 1,053 career games (2nd all-time) split between the Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks and Wild.
