A bold statement by Sid’s former teammate and close friend, but he explains it all. Get more below:
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury’s career in the National Hockey League might have come to an end, he knows that all the trade rumours surrounding his former captain and close friend Sidney Crosby will keep going. In an interview with Guillaume Lefrançois of La Presse, Fleury opened up on his new life following retirement and how involved he wishes to remain in the hockey world and in the NHL.
The former beloved netminder also wishes to see Crosby get another chance at a Stanley Cup, and he knows it probably won’t happen in Pittsburgh. Fleury commented (translated from French):
“I can’t answer for him, but it sounds like I’m wishing for him to leave. Pittsburgh has missed the playoffs for three years in a row, and things aren’t looking good for next season. I wish him well in his quest for a Stanley Cup. He’s such a winner, a good player.”
Another former teammate of Crosby, Max Talbot who was attending the same golf tournament as Fleury was also asked the question, and for his part, he claims that it’s not “unthinkable” to see Crosby in another uniform, but was careful about confident he was saying so:
“It’s not unthinkable, but I’m not buying into the rmors. It’s fun for the fans, for the media, to talk about it. But it will come down to what he wants to do. We’ll see, but I wouldn’t bet my house on that he’ll leave the Penguins.”
Fleury and Talbot are allowed to comment on their friend, having been so close to him, but also know that Crosby is such a loyal person.
Being interviewed close to Montreal, Talbot and Fleury were of course asked about the possibility of seeing Crosby accepting a trade to the Canadiens.
“It could happen, you never know.” “I think he’s the one who’s going to decide where he wants to go,” Fleury said. “It would be fun for all Quebecois to see him play every night. He’s such a good player, a good leader.”
We all know that the trade rumours surrounding Crosby are not going quiet anytime soon. And with Fleury’s comments, I bet they get even louder…
