Marc-Andre Fleury moves one spot closer to an NHL record.

Fleury continues to climb the ladder.

Veteran National Hockey League goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has already had quite the career for himself, and over the weekend he added another accolade to his list of career accomplishments as he continues to climb up the NHL record books.

Fleury, who was playing in the 964th NHL game of his professional career on Saturday, moved past the legendary Ed Belfour who appeared in 963 games during his own NHL career. That move was good enough to move Fleury up to 5th all time in NHL history, a position that he will have a realistic chance of improving upon this season.

The next obstacle for Fleury to overcome will be none other than NHL great Terry Sawchuk and he's pretty close to doing that as well. During his NHL career, Sawchuk would appear in a total of 971 games which means that Fleury omly needs to add 8 more games to his resume to claim 4th on the all-time list.

Barring any major injuries, it seems very likely that we will see Fleury claim that honor at some point this season. The other names on the list will be more difficult to catch however, with Patrick Roy (1029), Roberto Luongo (1044) and Martin Brodeur (1266) all having a considerable lead on Fleury.
