Marc Andre Fleury pranks young star in final prank as an active player.
Fleury leaves his mark on the next generation of NHL stars.
Beloved National Hockey League goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury earned a very well deserved reputation for mercilessly pranking his teammates throughout his career in the league but, as fate would have it his final prank as an active player may very well have come at the expense of a young man he never shared an NHL locker room with.
It was NHL hopeful Porter Martone who shared the story during the NHL's Scouting Combine over the weekend and he revealed that Fleury's final prank as an active player came not with the Wild but at this summer's World Championship of Hockey where Fleury represented his home country of Canada. According to Martone, it was Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Adam Fantilli who was on the receiving end of Fleury's antics.
"He sewed a cuff of the bottom of his pants together, so he couldn't put his pants on after the game," said Martone. "That was pretty funny."
While this may seem like a case of an older, more established, veteran player picking on a younger star, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact it sounds like Fantilli may have willingly put himself in the line of fire in the hopes of being pranked by Fleury like some kind of right of passage.
Fleury's agent, Allan Walsh, revealed on Saturday that Fantilli was actually subjected to a different prank each day after offering himself up as a target in exchange for an autographed stick from Fleury.
Fantilli got exactly what he wanted and to be honest getting pranked by Fleury and getting to take home a once in a lifetime type of souvenir like an autographed stick directly from the man himself sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
If Fleury does indeed hang up his skates at the end of this season as he has stated he will do, Fantilli will also get to claim that he was the last player to be pranked by Fleury during his playing career.
