Marc-Edouard Vlasic sets an all-time record, is now the NHL leader in blocked shots
Give this man a bottle of Tylenol as a trophy!
San Jose Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic is now the NHL's all-time leader in blocked shots!
With 2,165 blocks Vlasic passes Mark Giordano and Zdeno Chara, who if you can believe it, were actually tied at the top with 2,164 blocked shots.
With active playyers Alex Pietrangelo (2,071) and John Carlson (2,066) just behind him though you have to wonder how long Vlasic's record will hold up? The 37 year old blueliner is in year 7 of an 8 year deal that pays him a whopping $7 million annually and will likely retire once his deal is up in 2026. He'll no doubt rack up even more blocks in the year to come, but with Pietrangelo and Carlson both just 35 years old and with time left on their contracts, I wouldn't be surprised to see them overtake Vlasic when it's all said in done.
In any case, Vlasic's accomplishment is incredible and it puts his name up there with some of the all-time greatest.
